New York state of mind

Dear readers,
I have been now for quite a while in NY City, and in fact this is really a fantastic place to be. There are so many things to be done or seen that I barely have time to ensure my Royal duties at the UNO, but what do you want a Grito is a Grito and sometimes it is better to enjoy a place and have fun than to negotiate economical alliances.

So for instance I went near the Quays, a very nice place where people walk, run, have fun, kids play, and where I found a very practical seat just to look at the NY Skyline… and the people passing by of course.

King Negrito: I told you, NY is safe now!

You cannot miss the phones, yellow boxes, 911 and the cops arrive. But in fact you don’t need it, and I just used the phone box as on observation spot. It started to enlighten me in why the hell these people look that healthy: they are doing a lot of sport, I mean you cannot imagine the number of running, jogging, biking, boarding, skating, rolling people I have seen in a few minutes… not very difficult to stay fit in this case… When I felt exhausted watching all the people doing sport I decided to see the down part of mnahattan island and met a very strange guy.

Capitalism.jpg
King Negrito: raging bull?

At first sight I felt quite threatened, I mean a free bull in the street you know what it means when you have been in the south west of France or North west of Spain: dozens people running in the street, screams, bruises and all that… there it look like if everybody was used to him and in fact he welcomed me quite warmly.

- Hey King, Nice to meet you, I am the Capitalist bull!
- Hey nice to meet you, I am the King of the Gritos
- I know , I know, many people here are talking about you, they still do not get how a country like yours can live
- ? what do you mean, how?
- Well you got no army, no economy, no stock exchange, no cops, no foreign policy, no investors, no bankers, no options, no taxes, this is not sustainable!
- Ah dear bull, sure it is: Gritoland is as old as Paris, and I can tell you this means a lot of years…
- But what’s the miracle? You must have a trick, tell me! We’ll write a book, we’ll sell millions, we’ll make conferences, coaching sessions, build a company, sell it, build another one and then we’ll be rich and famous, and you’ll be able to come back to Paris like a star and do nothing except having fun!
- But dear Bull, why would I need to work that hard to get to a point I already reached when I was born? I have been doing that for years, and I am fine, thank you. My only burdens are my crown and the wine tasting duty I have.
- …pffff… these Old Europeans, they do not understand the modern world….
- Sure we do, for instance, the Californian wines are fantastic, do you want to share some?
- Hmmm? Shares? You like Californian wines? You, from France? Means I need to buy, 10 thousand shares, lt me check, ohhhh they are under priced, hmmmm….. if I sell them in three weeks, …$45.656 net profit …. I got the trick! You don’t say it, but you’re a natural born capitalist!
- Uhhh? ….ahem, yes, maybe, surely if you say so, have a nice day duded, I have so many things to see
- See,see …hmmm… you surely mean sunglasses, let me check the Stock, which brand? …. DO not care it’s summer, let’s buy….

I left him discreetly while he was busy buying sunglasses by millions, and was reinforced in the idea that it was not a good idea for me to sign any economical deal here, by far too complex. Thinking about Capitalism I suddenly felt threatened by a monster with more than 40 legs and 12 mouths!

Dog_Walker.jpg
King Negrito: damned, Cerberus was a weakling!

That guy suddenly popped out of nowhere with dozens of dogs attached to him, that was an amazing view. In fact it made me realize how many dogs I had seen in this city, this is a very trendy thing to have apparently, but the problem is: what to do with them while people are busy working? Well the New Yorkers found a solution: they pay people to walk their dogs. That is a bright idea, but there is still one question I did not solve: as you have to clean behind your dog of you get a ticket, how can that guy manage more than 10 dogs when they liberate their production on the ground? I did not see it happening but seeing the guy cleaning the ground while holding the dogs must be quite a performance.

Talking about cleaning the streets, I went on a street where the name of famous people who came to New York had the honor to see their name engraved on the floor. And there were quite a few French people, with one big surprise for me:

laval.jpg
King Negrito: well they could replace this one with me for instance…

I mean, it is quite strange that, given the guy behavior during the last Wolrld war, his name is still on the street, I mean you would expect it to be wiped out, but as I said previously, I had taken the decision to enjoy my stay as a tourist and no more as political leader of Gritoland, so I did not call upon the city mayor, and instead went back to Meatpacking district to relax a bit and enjoy the people passing by.

King Negrito: “New York City boys”, Pet Shop boys…

The boys here are not the standard Californian image of the American we have in Europe. They look like a mix of intellectual, artist, cool guys, not at all fake , abs, Colgate teeth, short haired ken. You can feel they have a life, and that, if they still follow some fashion trends, they own them instead of replicating them as we see too often… like the girls in fact…

NYCitygirl9.jpg
King Negrito: Me too, I am glad to meet you!

See what I mean? People smiling to you in the street, even if they are obviously busy, quite well dressed, and visibly full of life. It’s really a pleasure to be there, each street is different, each moment of the day is different, it’s a permanent moving maelstrom. And, as you probably get it now, I just love it!

Kisses to all

King Negrito

PS: kisses to all the Parisians who enjoy the french national day today!
